Demolition in Vancouver, WA and Clark County
MJ Concrete breaks up and hauls away old concrete: driveways, patios, walkways, steps and slabs. Most of the time it’s the first step before new concrete goes in, but it can be a job of its own.

Concrete we break up and haul away
Cracked and sunken driveways, old patios, broken walkways and sidewalks, crumbling steps, and slabs that are in the way of something new. Concrete with rebar or wire mesh in it is cut and broken into pieces small enough to load and haul.
Before concrete demolition starts
Before any digging, 811 gets called so the utility companies mark their buried lines. In Washington it’s the law, at least two business days ahead. Where old concrete meets something that’s staying, like a garage floor or a neighbor’s driveway, the edge is saw cut first so it breaks along a clean line.
After the old concrete is gone
The ground under an old slab is usually soft or uneven. If new concrete is going in, it gets dug out, graded and compacted for the new base. If not, the area can be left graded and ready for gravel, pavers or grass. Broken concrete can often be recycled into gravel instead of going to a landfill.

Questions about demolition
Can you remove a patio without pouring a new one?
Yes. Demolition can be its own job. The old slab comes out and the ground is left graded for whatever you want there next.
What happens to the old concrete?
It’s hauled away. Broken concrete can often be recycled into gravel instead of going to a landfill.
Do I need a permit to remove a driveway or patio?
Removing concrete on your own lot often doesn’t need one. Work at the street, like taking out a driveway entrance or a sidewalk, usually does. We’ll tell you at the estimate.
Why does the edge get saw cut first?
So the concrete breaks along a straight line. Without it, breaking out a slab can crack the garage floor, the sidewalk or anything else it touches.
