Concrete paving
Every surface we pave is concrete. A concrete driveway or patio doesn’t soften in summer heat, usually outlasts asphalt, and can be finished plain, with exposed aggregate or with a stamped pattern.
Paving work covers the whole job, not just the pour: tearing out an old driveway, digging and grading the site, building a compacted base, setting the slope so water runs off, and sealing the finished surface.
Site prep and drainage under the concrete
Most paving that fails, fails from underneath. Soft ground, a thin base and water running under the edges crack a slab no matter how well the top was finished. That’s why site prep and drainage get as much attention as the pour itself.
Concrete driveways from start to finish
A new driveway, a replacement for one that has cracked and sunk, repairs to a few broken panels or a fresh coat of sealer: each has its own page below with what’s involved and what it costs.

Questions about concrete paving
What do you pave with?
Concrete. It costs more up front than asphalt, but it usually lasts longer and holds its shape in summer heat.
Is concrete or asphalt better for a driveway?
Concrete usually lasts longer. A concrete driveway with a good base commonly lasts 25 to 30 years or more, and it can be finished to look like stone. Asphalt is cheaper to put in, but it softens in the heat and usually wears out sooner.
Can you fix water pooling on my driveway or patio?
Often, yes. Depending on the cause it might mean a drain at the low spot, piping a downspout under the slab, or replacing the section that has sunk so it slopes the right way.
