Concrete repairs in Vancouver, WA and Clark County
When part of a walkway, patio, step or driveway has cracked or sunk, MJ Concrete cuts out the broken section and pours a new one, so the rest of the concrete stays.

Concrete repair or replacement?
It depends on how much is broken and why. A walkway square lifted by a tree root, a patio corner that sank or one cracked driveway panel can be cut out and replaced on its own. When most of the slab is cracked, or the ground under all of it has washed out, a repair only buys a little time and pouring it new is the better use of your money.
Tevita will tell you which one makes sense when he comes out to look. If it’s a repair, you’ll know exactly which sections are being replaced.
How a broken concrete section gets replaced
The broken section is cut along its joints with a concrete saw, broken up and hauled away. The ground underneath gets checked, because a soft spot, a washed-out base or a root is usually what broke it in the first place. It gets dug out, refilled and compacted, then the new concrete is poured level with the sections around it and finished to match their texture.
Cracked steps and sunken walkways
Steps and walkways are where a crack or a sunken edge turns into something people trip on. A walkway square that has dropped below the ones next to it gets cut out and poured again at the right height, and a step that has cracked through gets formed and poured new.
Matching new concrete to the old
New concrete is lighter than concrete that has weathered for years, so a replaced section stands out at first. It evens out over time, and sealing the whole area afterward helps the old and new sections look more alike.

Questions about concrete repairs
Can you fix just part of my walkway or patio?
Usually, yes. A broken section can be cut out at its joints and poured new without touching the rest. If most of it is cracked, replacing the whole slab usually looks better and lasts longer.
Why does concrete crack and sink?
Most of the time it’s what’s underneath: soft ground, a thin base, water running under the edges or tree roots. Fixing the cause is part of the repair, or the new section ends up the same way.
Will the new section match the old concrete?
The texture will match. The color starts lighter and blends in as the new concrete weathers.
How soon can we walk on a repaired section?
Foot traffic is usually fine after a day or two. Give a driveway section about 7 days before you park a car on it.
