Site work, foundations and slabs from the ground up
Most building projects start with concrete. The site gets cleared and dug out, old concrete gets broken up and hauled away, and then the footings, foundation walls or slab go in. A garage, a shop, an addition or a new patio all need that work done right before anything else can happen on top of it.
We handle each of those steps: excavation and grading, demolition, footings, crawl space foundations, slab foundations and the concrete pour itself. That means one call and one schedule for the concrete side of the project.
Building permits and inspections in Vancouver
Foundations, slabs for new buildings and most structural concrete need a building permit, and the forms and steel are usually inspected before the concrete is poured. In Vancouver that permit comes from the city, and outside city limits from Clark County. We’ll tell you at the estimate what your project needs and plan the pour around the inspection.
Foundations built for Clark County ground and weather
Clark County’s plan review list puts frost protection for footings at 12 inches, and the rain here means water has to be planned for from the start. A good foundation sits on firm ground, has drainage around it and has the slope of the yard working for it instead of against it.

Questions about foundations and site work
What comes first on a new building?
The site work. Old concrete comes out, the ground is dug and graded, and the footings go in below the frost line. Then the foundation walls or the slab are poured, and the framing starts once the concrete has some strength.
Do I need a permit for a foundation or a shop slab?
Almost always for a new building. The City of Vancouver issues permits inside city limits and Clark County outside them. We’ll tell you at the estimate.
Can you tear out old concrete and pour new in the same job?
Yes. Demolition, excavation and the new pour can all be part of one project, so the site goes from old concrete to new without a second company.
